# Setting Up Evaluation Criteria for AI Candidate Scoring

> Define skills, experience, and cultural fit criteria with custom weightages so Hello Recruiter's AI scores candidates accurately and fairly.

<Info>
  **Who is this for?** Users with **Administrator** and **Recruiter** roles.
</Info>

Evaluation criteria are the foundation of how Hello Recruiter's AI assesses candidates. Well-defined criteria lead to more accurate, fair, and consistent evaluations.

## Setting Up Criteria

When creating a job, you'll define criteria in Step 3 of the job creation process. You can define criteria across key areas:

* **Technical skills** — Specific knowledge or abilities required for the role
* **Experience** — Relevant background and years of expertise
* **Soft skills** — Communication, leadership, problem-solving
* **Cultural fit** — Alignment with company values and team dynamics

## Setting Weightages

Not all criteria are equally important. Assign **weightages** to prioritize what matters most:

* Higher-weighted criteria have a greater impact on the overall candidate score
* This helps surface candidates who excel in the areas you care about most
* The total of all weightages should equal 100%

## Providing Guidance to the AI Evaluator

Help the AI make better assessments by supplying:

* **Context** about what "good" looks like for each criterion
* **Examples** of ideal responses or experiences
* **Red flags** that should lower scores

<Tip>
  **Write measurable criteria.** Instead of "Good communicator," try "Can explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders." Specific criteria lead to more accurate evaluations.
