# Automation Rules — Pause or Close a Job Automatically

> Pause or close a Hello Recruiter job automatically after a number of days live or when a stage reaches a set number of candidates.

> **Who is this for?** Users with the **Organisation Administrator** and **Recruiter** roles.

Automation rules stop a job from running longer than you want. Open the job and choose **Job Settings** from the **Job Navigation** menu on the left. Changes are saved automatically, and on a live job they apply to new candidate activity immediately.

## Rule Types

Automation rules pause or close the job automatically when it reaches a limit. There are two kinds:

| Rule | How it reads | Options |
| - | - | - |
| **Candidate count** | **When** *Applicants* **reaches** *100* **candidates,** *Pause job* | Stage group: **Applicants**, **Screening**, **Interviewing**, **Offer & Hire**, or **Rejected**. Action: **Pause job** or **Close job** |
| **Days live** | **After** *30* **days live,** *Pause job* | Number of days. Action: **Pause job** or **Close job** |

Job Settings — Automation Rules and Job Digest & Followers

## Add a Rule

**1. Add a rule**

Click **+ Add rule**.

**2. Set the limit and action**

Choose the stage group and number of candidates (or the number of days live), then choose **Pause job** or **Close job**.

**3. Turn the rule on**

Rules with a switch, such as **After 30 days live**, only run when the switch is on.

**4. Notify followers (optional)**

Turn on **Email followers when a rule pauses or closes this job** so the hiring team knows.

To remove a rule, click the bin icon at the end of its row. Changes are saved automatically.
