# What Is an AI Interview? A Guide for Job Candidates

> Learn what an AI interview is, how it works, what to expect, and how your responses are evaluated by Hello Recruiter's AI.

If you've been invited to an AI interview through Hello Recruiter, you're in the right place. This guide explains exactly what to expect.

## How It Works

An AI interview is a conversational assessment where you speak with an AI interviewer instead of a human — at least for this stage of the process. The AI asks you questions about your experience, skills, and fit for the role, just like a human recruiter would.

The key differences are that you can complete it **anytime** that works for you (no scheduling needed), it typically takes **10–30 minutes** depending on the role, and every candidate gets the **same fair, consistent** experience.

## Why Companies Use AI Interviews

AI interviews aren't about replacing the human element — they're about making the initial screening faster and fairer. Here's what this means for you:

* **No scheduling hassle.** Complete it on your own time — evenings, weekends, whenever suits you.
* **Equal opportunity.** Every candidate is asked the same types of questions and evaluated against the same criteria, reducing the unconscious bias that can occur in human-led screens.
* **Faster process.** Instead of waiting days or weeks for a recruiter call, you can interview the same day you apply.

## The Interview Experience

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Your Interview Link">
    You'll receive an email or in-app invitation with a unique link. Click it to open the interview in your browser.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Grant Camera & Microphone Access">
    Your browser will ask for permission to use your camera and microphone. This is required so you can have a video conversation with the AI.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Have a Conversation">
    The AI interviewer will introduce itself, explain the format, and begin asking questions. It's a natural, back-and-forth conversation — not a recorded monologue.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Receive Confirmation">
    Once finished, you'll see a confirmation screen. The hiring team will review your responses and contact you about next steps.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What Happens After

After you complete the interview:

1. Your responses are evaluated against the role's specific requirements
2. The hiring team receives a detailed summary and scorecard
3. If you're a good fit, you'll be invited to the next round — typically a conversation with a real person on the team

## Common Questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Is it recorded?">
    This depends on the company's settings. If recording is enabled, you'll be clearly informed before the interview begins. You can choose not to proceed if you're uncomfortable.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I redo it?">
    Generally, no — you get one attempt. That's why it's important to find a quiet space, test your setup, and take your time before starting.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is it biased?">
    AI interviews are designed to reduce bias, not introduce it. Every candidate is evaluated against the same criteria with the same questions — removing factors like interviewer mood, time of day, or unconscious preferences.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What if I have a disability or need accommodations?">
    Contact the company that invited you to discuss accommodations before starting the interview. They can adjust settings like interview duration or format as needed.

<Tip>
  **This is your chance to shine.** Treat it like any professional interview. The AI is evaluating your actual responses — be specific, give examples, and be yourself.
